acresofhopeI'm having a fit right now, much like the one I usually have around Christmas time, but let's stick to the holiday at hand.
Did you know that I didn't realize "Easter" was today until a few days ago? Yeah, and do you know why I didn't? It's March. Why is what's supposed to be Resurrection Sunday in March? Who picks the timing of this holiday anyway? Apparently a pagan, since the holiday from which we get the word "Easter" was just a few days ago. I mean where do you think all the eggs, bunnies and chicks come from? Do you know when Resurrection Sunday should be? A WHOLE FREAKIN' MONTH FROM NOW!!! Resurrection Sunday should be after Passover, and Passover isn't until next month.
I know to some I sound like a hateful bigot, but I'm just sick of this. Yeah, maybe I don't mind lighting candles or incense as forms of worship, because I know those aren't exclusive to just pagans, just the same as poetry (including the rhyming kind), music (including rock) and dancing (yes, dancing) aren't. It's just the fact that Christianity is so mangled with paganism annoys me. Really, what ever happened to being set apart?

ETA: Apparent it's not so pagan after all...but extremely confused. I still thinkEaster the Resurrection should be celebrated after Passover. After all, how can He be risen if He's not even dead yet?

Date: 2008-03-24 12:20 am (UTC)All I know is that for a long time it's been set to take place just after the first full moon after the spring equinox. However, this early March occurrence hasn't happened since 1913 (which is why nearly everyone doesn't ever remember it happening).
But, I think the real thing is simply that we have a chosen day to celebrate it.
