Snoresville

As of late my pastor has almost bored me to sleep during his sermons. I don't know if I should feel guilty for that or not. He was preaching from Romans 3, about the Jewish people in relation to God. I don't even remember any of it because it was so boring. All I know was all his subpoints started with C. All I remember thinking the whole time was, "...is there a point to all this?" Yes, it is important to understand about Jews...but I'm not a Jew, and the points he was making were so "duh! like I couldn't figure that out on my own" that I don't remember them.

A few months ago, he was speaking from Romans 1, about how God gives people over to a depraved mind, and had the audacity to use a gothic person for an example. Now I don't watch the news, so obviously I missed that some gothic guy killed somebody. But don't most murderers dress like the average person? Was there any reason to pick out the goth (if he even was one)?! And to talk about the black clothing and makeup like it was proof of a depraved mind! I remember praying, "Oh God, please don't let him say that in the next service!" (Our 11am service is broadcast live locally.)

And I don't think until a new church was built right near where I live that I noticed how many churches there are here in Spartanburg. I mean, there are three churches right across the road from each other, like a dotted line, right near Bi-Lo! Why do we need another church building?!? Isn't there enough division already?!

These kinds of things sicken me. My pastor makes pointless points, points pointless fingers and people build pointless buildings they call churches. It's all pointless. I don't think this is what Jesus had in mind. He never taught a pointless lesson, or used an outcast as an example of what not to be. If anything, I think he had more negative things to say about the religious leaders!

I don't know, guys. Something has to change. I guess I'll start with myself. After all, I'm the only person I have control over. And I'm not sure if I really do. It seems Someone else does.

I think you already know what I was about to say, but I'm going to not say that because it's just plain rude of me to say such things.

In other words, your pastor should not be pastoring a church. Have him visit a church where goths are welcome (or point him in the direction of the Christian Goth website); he'll change his mind.

Well...one can be hopeful, eh (I'm way too hopeful in regards to people.)?

As for the pastor, I pray his mind will be changed; maybe a loving rebuke will help as well (possibly from a gothic Christian).

No, he has been preaching for quite some time, and he's been pastor at the church I attend for about 10 years. I went to school with his youngest son from the time he came here through high school, and now I help him (the son)with sixth grade discipleship. I don't to get the poor guy involved. He can't help what his dad says.

I cut my pastor some slack because he is an old man who has most likely been mislead by the media and also by other preachers who have been mislead about such things and on the cycle goes. The way he spoke, he seemed to believe the gothic subculture to be a religious movement. I think he just needs to be more informed.

I would suggest finding a new church and/or praying for God to enlighten your pastor

I agree =] He'll find a way to stop being so boring, God will help him.

What a coincidence...I went to high school with you. Never thought I'd find you on here. My name is Kate, btw.

You were friends with Jamie, right? Unless I'm thinking of a different Liz who used to be Wiccan...

Yeah, that's me. I'm trying to figure out if I knew you, but it's kinda hard without anything to go by.

We went to middle school together too. I was friends with Rachel. I have curly, frizzy-ish hair...ringing a bell?

Lol I was hoping that would help. I'm doing great. Still in school. I'll graduate eventually. In 2007, if all goes as planned. I'm a poli sci major. How are you doing?

I'm great. I'm just trying to get into school. I applied to Converse for this year, but...dang it, that lady must be a lazy bum. So yeah, I'm rethinking that.
