acresofhope: (remember who you are)

a new beginning

An explanation of sorts.

The change in journal, and e-mail, is symbolic of me starting over. I've also returned to using my ChristianLadyLiz AIM name to symbolize my return to my First Love, as well as leaving behind some other things. Surprisingly, doing these things is making it easier to actually do the things they symbolize. That's probably why I liked doing rituals back when I was pagan, and why I love participating in things like The Lord's Supper now. By doing something physical, it helps me focus on what's really important.

What leads me to all this is my very recent obsession adoration of The Lion King, due to my mom's purchase of the box set. I don't know if any of you have noticed, but that movie (and the sequel...and possibly the inbetweenquel, but I haven't really watched that one) is packed with spiritual truth. I'll put my insights here, behind the cut, so that way if you want to get a fresh/first viewing before you read.

What I've learned from The Lion King trilogy, spiritually speaking:

Satan really is like a lion, and his name is Scar.

Just before the big fight, Scar told Simba that the hyenas were the real enemy, to which Simba replied, "Why should I believe you? Everything you ever told me was a lie." He lied to Simba all the time, even to the point of deceiving him into believing he wasn't worthy of his own kingdom. Satan does this to Christians all the time. He tells us we're no good, dirty pieces of trash, and we believe him. We forget that is who we used to be, not who we are now. Which leads me to the next point.

Remember who you are.

"You have forgotten who you are and so forgotten me. Look inside yourself, Simba. You are more than what you have become...Remember who you are. You are my son..."

There are a ton of things covered here, so I'll try to get my thoughts organized the best I can.

Christians are children of God, new creations in Christ. We're not dirty, no matter how much we sin. We've been made clean, our old self crucified with Christ to never return. To forget who we are is to forget the God who made us who we are.

He lives in you.

Some lyrics from the opening of The Lion King II: Simba's Pride:

He lives in you
He lives in me
He watches over
Everything we see
Into the water
Into the truth
In your reflection
He lives in you

The power to resist temptation resides in us. We need to do what Simba did. He listened to his father. Once he remembered who he was, he was able to go back, defeat Scar and take his rightful place in "the circle of life," or in our case, follow God's plan for us.

We are one.

We are one with God, and also with each other. I don't know about you, but I think that is awesome! Knowing that, I don't feel so alone.

Well, that's all. If you've gotten something else out of any of these movies, let me know!
